OpenID

Talk:Main Page

It would be nice to let readers know which OpenID plugin is used for this wiki and how it can be downloaded.--Shechtman 10:04, 3 November 2006 (PST)

There's something about that here: http://kveton.com/blog/2006/10/07/openid-bounty-status/

I have MediaWiki installed at my hosted website but, from what I can tell, it looks like you need to install php libraries on the web server so unless I can get the server admin to do this I'll have to wait.

Getting WordPress working was just a matter of putting the files in the plugin directory and making a few changes to templates. The php libraries were installed in the plugin directory of WordPress.

It might be a good idea to set this page as protected.

Suggestion: Login required to edit

Since this wiki uses OpenID for logins, maybe it would be better to turn off anonymous editing and page creation. This would motivate people to start using OpenID and cut down on spam. I've had a couple spammers actually login at my site to post their links but it's a simple matter to set the block for those users.

Lock the Main Page to ensure a good first impression on visitors, and then save other pages until vandalism calls for it. Locking all of the site can be a put-off, speaking of my own experience. Also add some hints for newcomers on the Main Page. What about "New to OpenID? Maybe you already have one, or get one free to join us."

Hints for newcomers

What if someone just adds something like that to the Main Page or maybe a link to a new page with the mother of all hints for newcomers? What I mean is this is a Wiki and it's designed to let people collaborate on a particular task. In this case the goal is to expedite world domination by OpenID. --Spot 21:18, 24 November 2006 (PST)

Theoretically it should work out of the box

That's what the readme file says anyway. I'm talking about using your wiki site as an OpenID Server. I've tried this using my user page here to login at Wikitravel and my user page there to login here. But no cigar.

This isn't a request to get this working here or at Wikitravel; I'm trying to get this working at my site. The normal OpenID logins work at my wiki using several different OpenID servers... except another OpenID-aware MediaWiki site.

It would be really slick if this worked with the MediaWiki OpenID Extennsion.

Italian translation

I would like to contribute an Italian translation of this wiki. Is this the right place to announce it? May I start right away? mauror 15:32, 26 January 2007 (PST)

List of sites using OpenID ?

I searched and could not find such a thing. OpenID is not appealing to people, if they can not use it anywhere. Or think that they can not use it anywhere. So please create (or linkit, if already exists) a list of sites, where OpenId can be used to log in.

URL or HTTP URL ?

Can any URL type be used for OpenID or just HTTP URLs ?

Question

So, if myOpenID.com is my provider, and I register blah.name and deligate to myOpenID.com, can I use both the blah.name and the myOpenID.com url interchangeablely? OpenIDUser24 08:54, 3 June 2007 (PDT)
