OpenID 인증은 현재 OpenID 주요 스펙으로, 어떤 URI 의 소유여부를 지정된 제 3 자에게 문의해서 결정하도록 하는 방법을 제공한다. 많은 사이트들이 현재 이전 버전의 스펙을 이용해서 사용자들을 그들의 URI 기반 식별자로 식별하고 있다.
2.0 스펙은 확정되었으며, 그 세부사항은 the specs page 에서 볼수 있다.
