The follow are ideas on how the Adoption Committee would like to research modifying the OpenID framework to shift it towards a web service model rather than a browser-dependent one.  This will enable use on mobile platforms and other non-browser-based environments while allowing browser-based implementations to take advantage of this approach as well.

The budget for this work for 2010 is assumed to be $7,500.

Schedule:

  • Identify a working committee who will work with the Technology Committee on a strategy for making OpenID platform agnostic - April 15th
  • Prepare a strategy for pursuing an implementation that makes OpenID platform agnostic - June 1st
  • Share strategy for making OpenID platform agnostic with the Board - late July
  • Prepare an implementation strategy, in concert with the Technology Committee - September 30th
  • Share implementation strategy, with the Technology Committee, for making OpenID platform agnostic - November IIW Board Meeting
